GCHS Valedictorian Wins Car

Congrats, Gregory Roytman!

Grayslake Central Class of 2013 valedictorian, Gregory Roytman, added to his list of accomplishment by winning the Senior Car Giveaway Friday, May 17. The Senior Car Giveaway is sponsored by Rockenbach Chevrolet in Grayslake and the finalists must maintain a 3.0 GPA or better, 90 percent or better attendance rate, no tardy or unexcused absence, no entry in the discipline log, and participate in an activity, club, or sport during their senior year. Gregory’s name was drawn from a basket containing the finalists’ names. Congratulations to Gregory and all the finalists for their hard work during senior year. —Grayslake High School District 127 submitted this information.

Congrats, Grayslake Central Grads!

Grayslake Central High School held its commencement ceremony at 1 p.m. May 19.

The hallways at Grayslake Central High School were a sea of green and white Sunday afternoon as students awaited the start of their graduation ceremony. They made last-minute adjustments to their mortarboards and tassels, and some tieless boys were given ties to wear. And, of course, there was the customary passing-around of smartphones to have photos taken with friends. "It's been a good four years," said Chris Tatsuguchi. Tatsuguchi was named the school's salutatorian. Greg Roytman was named the valedictorian. "It's been hard, especially the last couple of years," said Tatsuguchi. He spent his junior and senior year in honors and AP classes. He was also a member of the Blue Devil Swim Club for 12 years. "I'm very excited," Tatsuguchi …

Grayslake Central, North Athletes Compete in State Track Meet

Congratulations to all of the Grayslake athletes who advanced to state!

Grayslake Central and Grayslake North athletes competed at the state track and field meet May 16-18. Grayslake Central ranked 36th in the state. Here's a look at how Grayslake Central athletes performed in various events in the state finals, according to the IHSA website: Grayslake North freshman Allie O'Connell, who took first place in the 100-meter high hurdles at the Palatine Sectional, came in seventh in the preliminaries at state. Only the top three finishers qualified for the state finals.

Grayslake North Lacrosse Bests Grayslake Central

Both teams are headed to the state playoffs.

The Knights from Grayslake North finished off the regular season with a 17-7 win over Grayslake Central and improved to 15-4 on the season with their 12th straight win. In front of a huge crowd with the help of over 150 Grayslake Youth Lacrosse League participants, North jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. The defense led by Goalie Eric York, as well as first team All-Conference selection Ben Smith, were steady all night. Shane Pech, Kevin Carter, Jake Lamb and Ian Pearce were rock solid in keeping Grayslake Central off balance all night. Grayslake Athletes Competing in Regional, Sectional Events

Let's cheer on our Knights and Rams!

It's going to be a big week for many Grayslake Central and Grayslake North athletes as they compete in regional, sectional and state events for various sports. Here's a look at the action coming up this week, according to the IHSA website: Girls Soccer Grayslake Central will face Chicago (CICS/Northtown) at 4:30 p.m. May 15 at Grayslake Central in the regional semifinals. The winner of this game will face winner of the Lakes Community High School-Chicago (Resurrection) game, which will be played at 6:30 p.m. May 15 at Grayslake Central. The regional finals are set for 11 a.m. May 18 at GCHS. The winner of the Grayslake Regional will face the winner of the Antioch Regional in the sectional semifinal at 6:30 p.m. May 21. Grayslake Central, North Runners Qualify for State

Check out the results of the Grayslake Central and Palatine High School Sectional meets.

A number of Grayslake Central and Grayslake North runners qualified for the state track meet following the girls Grayslake Central Sectional, held May 9 and the Palatine High School Sectional, held May 10. GCHS placed second at the sectional meet with 89 points, with Lakes Community High School of Lake Villa taking first with 103 points, according to the IHSA website. GCHS senior Cara Engal took first place in the pole vault. Senior Jamie Mara took first in the 100-meter high hurdles; she also won third place in the 300-meter low hurdles. Runners also took first in the 4x200-meter relay, including Engal, Maddie Jacobs, Sara O'Malley and Leah Kloss. Kloss, a junior, also took first in the 200-meter dash. Grayslake Central Students Hold Luau for Local Seniors

The event was the culmination of a month-long project completed by the Public Service Practicum class.

The rainy weather didn't dampen the atmosphere at the Senior Citizen Luau held Thursday by Public Service Practicum students from Grayslake Central High School. Held at the Round Lake Sports Center, the luau featured festive decor—including leis and bright colors—and plenty of fun music. The guests also danced and played games. About 75 people attended the luau, which students had been planning for about a month, said teacher Dustin Chierico. "They've worked really hard," said Chierico, noting that even with finals coming up next week, the students dedicated their time to host the event. "It says a lot about their character." Grayslake Central, North Make Newsweek's 'Best High Schools' List

The magazine's 2013 rankings came out Monday and included both Grayslake District 127 schools.

On mobile? You can see interactive map here. Newsweek came out with its annual high school rankings Monday and included both Grayslake Central and Grayslake North High Schools. For its rankings, Newsweek sent out a survey to more than 5,000 high schools in the U.S., with about 2,500 schools responding in 2013. You can see the details about the other ranked high schools by clicking on the markers in the interactive map above. The survey scores were then weighted and calculated using several criteria including on-time graduation and college acceptance rates. In addition, instead of averaging the number of courses offered, this year Newsweek considered the percentage of students enrolled in AP, IB or Advance International Certificate courses…

If you look at the district website you will see the state report cards for both schools. GNHS has a grad rate of 90% and an avg ACT of 22.4. GCHS has a grad rate of 93% and an avg ACT score of 22.8. It seems like Newsweek did not have accurate information.   more ›

GCHS Grad to Perform in Chorale Tour

Salena Berger is a student at Northwestern College.

Northwestern College announces that Salena Berger, daugher of Rick & Linda Berger of Grayslake, will be participating in the Northwestern College Women's Chorale 2013 Spring Tour. Tour dates and locations are as follows: Berger is a 2012 graduate of Grayslake Central and is currently a freshman pursuing a degree in Business . The Northwestern College Women's Chorale, directed by Dr. Mary Kay Geston, will tour and perform April 25-28 in St. Paul, Rochester, and New Brighton, Minn., returning to Northwestern College for their Homecoming Concert shared with the Varsity Men's Chorus on Tuesday, April 30 at 7:30 in Maranatha Hall on the Northwestern College campus. GCHS Student Wins Car From Operation Click

Congratulations to Tanner Hermes, Grayslake Central High School, who is the winner of a new car from Operation Click. This is GCHS’s second year participating in Operation Click, which is “a program designed to reduce teen fatalities and injuries from motor vehicle crashes by developing safe driving habits through education and positive reinforcement.” At the start of each school year, students sign a contract agreeing to practice safe driving habits behind the wheel or as a passenger in a vehicle. Positive reinforcements are used throughout the school year to reward students for engaging in safe behaviors and reminders are visible within the school regarding safe practices or dangers associated with driving.  Four random safety belt …
