Library Announces Summer Concert Series

The summer concert series at the Grayslake Area Public Library kicks off June 10.

The Friends of the Grayslake Area Public Library has announced the 2013 summer concert series. These free concerts will be held outside the library on the lawn, weather permitting. The will provide limited seating and encourages concert-goers to bring their own blankets or chairs. The series kicks off at 7 p.m. June 10 with Small Potatoes, the Chicago-based duo of Jacquie Manning and Rich Prezioso, who have become regulars at many clubs, coffeehouses and folk festivals across the country. Calling themselves eclecto-maniacs, they describe their music as “Celtic to Cowboy” and say it has taken them “years of careful indecision” to come up with a mix of music that ranges from country, blues, and swing to Irish. Rep. Sam Yingling Offers Job Seeker Workshop

Job Boot Camp will be presented by State Rep. Sam Yingling and DeVry University at the Grayslake Library May 18.

State Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, and DeVry University will help job seekers sharpen their skills and prepare to succeed in a competitive job market by hosting a Job Boot Camp at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 18 in the Grayslake Area Public Library. "In Springfield, I’m working on ways to improve the business climate, strengthen the economy and give businesses the tools they need to get Illinois families back to work, but I’m also working on ways provide some immediate assistance to the men and women looking for jobs in our communities," said Yingling. Grayslake Library has Free Museum Passes

Looking for a free, family-friendly way to spend an afternoon? Check out an area museum with a free pass from the Grayslake Library.

Use your Grayslake Library card to check out free admission to museums in the Chicagoland area. Use your library card to receive a Museum Adventure Passes, and get free admission or a special discount, depending on location, at one of the Chicago area museums. Get your pass at the Adult Reference Desk.

Grayslake Library 'Friends' Need Book Sale Volunteers

The spring sale is set for April 12-14.

The Friends of the Library at the Grayslake Area Public Library District are searching for volunteers to help with their Spring Book Sale. The sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 12, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 13 and 1 to 4 p.m. April 14. Grayslake Library Survey Opens March 1

Help shape the future of the Grayslake Area Public Library District, which is conducting a community survey March 1-15.

Starting Friday, March 1, the Grayslake Area Public Library website, www.grayslake.info, will have a link to its Community Survey to get feedback from residents on library services. The survey will also be available in Spanish, and there will be paper surveys at the library for those who can't respond via Internet. The survey will extend through March 15. The library is currently working on its five-year plan. The survey results will be a component of this process along with input from a community focus group, which met in January. The focus group was charged with reviewing current social, demographic and economic trends and analyzing the community’s and the library’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. Youth Program Offerings at the Grayslake Public Library

From chess to graphic novels, the Grayslake Area Public Library District has many activities for local youths.

The following Grayslake Area Public Library programs are free and require registration by phone, in person, or on-line at www.grayslake.info unless otherwise noted. Chess Club Fridays, March 1, 15 and 22 from 4-5 p.m. Come join the club! This program is for both experienced players and those who want to learn. Meet new friends, improve problem solving skills, and enjoy the challenge. Ages 8 and up. Space is limited. Book and Playaway Chat Tuesday, March 5, from 4-5:30 p.m. Join other teens and discuss the latest books, magazines and graphic novels.  Haven’t read a book in a while? This program is for you also! Help Shape the Future of the Grayslake Library

The Grayslake Area Public Library is seeking residents to participate in a community focus group.

Are you a resident of the Grayslake Area Public Library District? Do you have ideas on how to make it even better? Then join the library's community focus group and let your voice be heard! The library, which is currently working on its 5-year plan, invites residents from high school age to senior citizens to help with the long-range planning process. You don't have to be a library card holder, just reside within the library district. For those interested in participating, there will be a two-hour orientation session at 7 p.m. Wednesday followed by a planning session led by a facilitator from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26. Enjoy These Sunday Concerts

Take your family to see one of three concerts this weekend.

The Red Rose Children's Choir of Lake County is one of several choirs that will participate in a special concert to remember the lives lost at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, CT. The choir will participate in the 'Healing the Brokenhearted' concert at St. James Cathedral, 5 E. Huron St., Chicago on Sunday, Jan. 13 at 5 p.m. The concert will be recorded and then broadcast at 7 p.m. on 98.7 WFMT, Chicago's classical radio station, and on WFMT's website.
