The magazine's 2013 rankings came out Monday and included both Grayslake District 127 schools.
On mobile? You can see interactive map here. Newsweek came out with its annual high school rankings Monday and included both Grayslake Central and Grayslake North High Schools. For its rankings, Newsweek sent out a survey to more than 5,000 high schools in the U.S., with about 2,500 schools responding in 2013. You can see the details about the other ranked high schools by clicking on the markers in the interactive map above. The survey scores were then weighted and calculated using several criteria including on-time graduation and college acceptance rates. In addition, instead of averaging the number of courses offered, this year Newsweek considered the percentage of students enrolled in AP, IB or Advance International Certificate courses…

Grayslake Police were reportedly searching for a suspect/suspects in the area.
Update, 11:26 p.m.: A report of a burglary-in-progress, and the subsequent search for a suspect, led to both Avon School and Grayslake North High School being placed on lockdown early Friday afternoon. Grayslake Police were called to a burglary-in-progress reported by a homeowner on the 1700 block of Maplewood, an area of multi-unit townhouse-style buildings, Police Chief Phil Perlini said in a press release. Police located the suspect and made an arrest within the subdivision at about 1:30 p.m, Perlini said. Avon and Grayslake North were placed on lockdown "due to their proximity to the neighborhood in question," he said. "At no time were students in harm's way; the lockdown was purely precautionary in nature," said Perlini. He added that…

Today our team was given the unique opportunity to tour Duke’s campus and spend some time on their lacrosse fields both playing and observing. Making our way to breakfast in the morning, our team feasted on the French toast that our coach somehow convinced the hotel to serve us. After that we quickly gathered our equipment and hustled onto the bus so that we could get to our 10 o’clock practice on the notorious lacrosse team’s own practice field. During practice, we worked a lot on our fundamentals and new Carolina offense, while enjoying the warmer weather and the ambiance of the university. After practice, we met with Greg Dale, who is in charge of the psychological part of sports and makes sure that Duke’s athletes not only separate …

The lacrosse team arose from their much-needed sleep at 7:45 in order to eat our daily hotel provided breakfast. We then ventured off to the practice field for a light practice; just stick drills and skeleton offense. We needed to save all of the strength we had for our future opponents, the Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders. Post-practice, our coach treated us to a delicious southern brunch at Perkins. We enjoyed omelets, biscuits, sandwiches and some even ordered a side of French silk pie. We were given about two hours to relax before we took a bus ride down to our last game in North Carolina. Once off the bus, our game faces were put on and we stepped on the recent turf that the high school had. Once all geared up, we began our pre-game …

Waking up feeling the bruises from last night’s game, our lacrosse team trudged down to the breakfast room to partake in our daily meal of eggs, sausage, and assorted bagels and muffins. Our goalie, Yorkie, may or may not have eaten an entire batch of muffins. After slamming orange juice like it was our jobs, we made our way upstairs to lay low until our morning practice. Once on the field, we stretched like no one has ever stretched before. While fine-tuning our offense and defense, the sun shone through just enough to give us all the start to our arm-pad tans that will hopefully last until June 2. After getting Subway from the mini-mall next to our hotel, we had just enough time to eat and watch SportsCenter before we geared up again to …

The Grayslake North Lacrosse team will be providing updates throughout the week about their spring break trip. The team lost their first spring break game, but they're enjoying the trip!
We started off our day bright and early at 7:30 for breakfast. After everyone got their fix of scrambled eggs, sausage, and fruits, we all headed back to our rooms for an hour and a half nap before we headed off to the field for our practice. After the rain of the first day, the field was covered in mud and with the sun hiding in the clouds, it was just like practicing back at home. It took a little bit for the sun to show, but when it did, it finally felt like we were on vacation. Upon arrival to the hotel, we were greeted by lunch courtesy of Jersey Mike’s. After lunch we had another two hours until our next practice to prepare for our first game against Apex High School. After our second practice, we had another hour to get ready to …
The Grayslake North Lacrosse team will be providing updates throughout the week about their spring break trip.
Arriving at the school at approximately 9 a.m. our lacrosse team loaded onto the bus for our annual spring break business trip. Accompanied by four chaperones and 24 lacrosse players, we began our journey to Midway airport via coach bus. Amidst a loud discussion about who would win in a fight, Anderson Silva or a Navy Seal, we broke discussion to find ourselves at Midway. After already wandering the airport for an hour and a half, we were told that our flight was being delayed another 45 minutes. After spending the extra 45 minutes wandering through Midway Airport, we were gifted with priority boarding thanks to Assistant Coach Ed Trabulsy’s heroic ways. The 1 hour and 45 minute flight blew by to most, but was a nightmare for first time …

If you look at the district website you will see the state report cards for both schools. GNHS has a grad rate of 90% and an avg ACT of 22.4. GCHS has a grad rate of 93% and an avg ACT score of 22.8. It seems like Newsweek did not have accurate information.   more ›
