Grayslake Police: Buckle Up to Save Lives, Avoid Tickets

The Grayslake Police Department will participate in the Click It or Ticket campaign, which begins May 10.

The 2013 Click It or Ticket campaign kicks off May 10 in Illinois. The purpose of the campaign is to help save lives by cracking down on those who do not buckle up through the Memorial Day holiday weekend. The Grayslake Police Department is joining the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), the Illinois State Police (ISP) and over 500 local law enforcement agencies across the state to save more lives by strongly enforcing seat belt laws. As the busy summer driving season kicks off, it's important for everyone to buckle up every trip, every time, day or night - no excuses. Grayslake North Placed on 'Soft Lockdown' for 45 Minutes

Grayslake Police were reportedly searching for a suspect/suspects in the area.

Update, 11:26 p.m.: A report of a burglary-in-progress, and the subsequent search for a suspect, led to both Avon School and Grayslake North High School being placed on lockdown early Friday afternoon. Grayslake Police were called to a burglary-in-progress reported by a homeowner on the 1700 block of Maplewood, an area of multi-unit townhouse-style buildings, Police Chief Phil Perlini said in a press release. Police located the suspect and made an arrest within the subdivision at about 1:30 p.m, Perlini said. Avon and Grayslake North were placed on lockdown "due to their proximity to the neighborhood in question," he said. Telephone Harassment Charge Filed in Smigielski Case

Former Grayslake District 46 Board Member Shannon Smigielski said she received the threatening phone call in January during the teachers' strike.

A man was arrested for making a threatening phone call to former Grayslake District 46 board member Shannon Smigielski at the height of the teachers' strike in January, according to Grayslake Police. Christopher Culp, 43, of 691 S. Rose Hall Lane, Round Lake, was charged with disorderly conduct-telephone harassment, a Class B misdemeanor, said Grayslake Det. Sgt. Jeff Myhra. Culp was released on $5,000 bond, Myhra said. Smigielski said she was also granted an order of protection against Culp at the Lake County Circuit Court last week, which states that Culp can't come within 500 feet of her home. In addition, the document requires that Culp also stay at least 500 feet away from Prairieview and Grayslake Middle Schools, Smigielski said. …

The St. Patrick’s Day holiday time period can be a deadly and dangerous time on Illinois roadways.
