Fill your belly with pancakes and help the Grayslake Youth Baseball Association at Saturday's pancake breakfast. LifeSource will also be holding a blood drive.
Come out to the Grayslake Fire Station at 160 Hawley St. Saturday, Feb. 9 for the annual Grayslake Youth Baseball Association/Firefighter Blood Donor Challenge. The cost is $5 per person. Players eat free. The pancake breakfast will be held from 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., to benefit the GYBA, which is accepting registration for the spring season now at www.gybaonline.com. The LifeSource blood drive will take place 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome, though appointments are preferred. To register, call Ingrid Skidmore at (847) 223-8960. Time to think Spring as registration for in-house baseball leagues is available now online, or in person beginning this Saturday.
We are hardly out of the holiday season, and it may be hard to imagine warm weather and green grass at the ball field, but the Grayslake Youth Baseball Association (GYBA) is ready to go for the Spring season. Registration for In-House baseball is now open online at www.gybaonline.org. Or you can register in-person on the next two weekends, Saturday, January 12 and Jan. 19 at the State Bank of the Lakes, 50 Commerce Drive from 8:30 - 11 a.m. GYBA is open to Grayslake residents in first- through ninth-grades who live within the boundaries of Grayslake Central High School and Grayslake North High School. It's time to celebrate for the 13/14 year old Pony League Rochester Red Wings who secured the Grayslake Youth Baseball Association championship Sunday in a game against the Wisconsin Rattlers 8-6. In the top of the first, Wisconsin Rattlers grabbed the early lead, 3-0. Rattlers got things going when Billy Drevline doubled. A single by Carter Maiden then moved Drevline from second to third. Wisconsin Rattlers pushed more runs across when Ben Sulzer scored on a passed ball and Tyler Barta scored on an RBI single by Jack Rutkowski. In the bottom of the 1st inning, Matt Kozak led off with a single, followed by a single by Chris Akin.
