Local man brings joy to many with his extensive collection of memorabilia from the film "It's a Wonderful Life."
Growing up, Richard Goodson, of Grayslake, didn't have the warm and loving family bond he craved. "I grew up with limited means and difficult circumstances. There was no traditional Christmas." That's why watching the1946 Frank Capra classic, "It's a Wonderful Life" for the first time left such a lasting impression. "It spoke to me on some level," said Goodson, an avid movie memorabilia collector who possesses thousands of items from "It's a Wonderful Life," from an original script and movie stills to call sheets and cast contracts. OUTSIDE DETROIT-- Giving up a promising career in Hollywood to start a family might be a difficult choice for a talented young actress, but for Virginia Patton, the decision paved the way for a wonderful life away from the limelight. Patton, now 86, portrayed Ruth Dakin Bailey in the 1946 Frank Capra classic It’s a Wonderful Life, starring alongside such screen legends as James Stewart and Donna Reed at just 20 years old, but left acting soon afterwards to move to Ann Arbor to pursue a family with husband Cruse W. Moss, a successful automotive executive. The Grayslake North High School Theatre Company will give a dramatic reading of "It's a Wonderful Life."
In the tradtion of those great old time radio shows, the Grayslake North High School Theatre Company will perform a reading of the holiday classic, "It's a Wonderful Life" at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the Black Box Theatre. Tickets are just $5, with proceeds going to help the students pay to attend the 3-day Illinois High School Theatre Festival at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in January. "It really means a lot to the kids to be able to cut their costs of the trip, so the more we can get the word out the better," said theater manager Teslen Sadowski of the holiday radio show fundraiser.
