It can be a challenge to find an impressive gift to give at the holidays—be it for your boss, a party host or a fickle friend, but you can never go wrong with a festive basket of goodies, especially when it's filled with imported gourmet food items from Italy. "I have a passion for this," said Nancy Gabriele, a Grayslake resident who operates a secret little shop within her Italian language school in the lower level of the Tomei Insurance building in the Saratoga Square plaza, located at the southeast corner of Washington Street and Route 21 in Gurnee. Bringing Italy to Lake County: Italian Tours and Treasures

Grayslake resident Nancy Gabriele shares her love of Italy through Italian language classes, tours to Italy and a gift shop with imported products.

Nancy Gabriele of Grayslake, the unofficial ambassador to Italy, shares the language, culture and food of Italy through her business La Gabri-Elle Language School in Gurnee. And her audience is growing. Nancy Gabriele started teaching Italian, her first language, through her business, La Gabri-Elle Language School in Gurnee. But learning the language wasn't enough.  Gabriele said her friends wanted to go to Italy but did not want to go alone because they were not familiar enough with traveling overseas or the language. So they suggested she organize a trip. So each year, Gabriele has planned a nine-day trip to Puglia, Italy in September. Nancy Gabriele may be known as the unofficial ambassador to Italy. This Grayslake resident wants to share the language, culture and food of her birth place within the Chicago area, and her audience is growing. “Part of my mission is to bring something of Italy here to the United States,” she said. Gabriele was born in the Puglia region in Italy and only spoke Italian until she was 6 years old. Her parents emigrated to Montreal where she learned to speak English and French and went to university where she earned her degree in language. In addition to working for Alitalia Airlines in customer relations, she worked weekends teaching Italian language to children.
