Grayslake's Joey Frase, whose body was found frozen to death near Campbell Airport two days after leaving a party on Jan. 19, became confused and lost as he tried to walk home in the frigid temperatures, according to the death investigation.
The investigation into the death of 20-year-old Joey Frase of Grayslake was concluded this week. Frase's body was discovered by volunteer searchers the morning of Jan. 22 near Campbell Airport a couple days after he went missing from a party in Round Lake's Madrona Village. The official cause of death was hypothermia, according to Lake County Coroner Thomas Rudd. Given the sub-zero wind chills in those overnight hours, and the fact that Frase was wearing only a hoodie and not a winter coat, "exposure can take you very fast," Rudd told Patch. The friends of Joey Frase, who died Jan. 20 after succumbing to hypothermia, will be selling remembrance wristbands at Something's Brewing Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
A fundraiser for the family of Grayslake resident Joey Frase, who died of hypothermia on Jan. 20 after going missing from a party in Round Lake's Madrona Village, has been organized by his friends. Wristbands in remembrance of Frase will be sold at Something's Brewing at 82 E. Center Street from 3 p.m. to closing on Wednesday, Feb. 13 and Friday, Feb 15. On Thursday, Feb. 14, wristbands will be sold at the Something's Brewing location at 1126 E. Washington St. from 3 p.m. to closing. Wristbands will cost $4 for the first one, and $2 for each additional wristband. The proceeds will benefit the Frase family. The Grayslake Fire Department responded to a small, unintentional fire that started after the vigil for Joey Frase on the night of Tuesday, Jan. 22.
An unattended candle from Tuesday night's vigil for Joey Frase at Campbell Airport resulted in a small brush fire. Battalion Chief Jon Cokefair told Patch the Grayslake Fire Department responded to the scene with an engine at about 6:43 p.m. The fire was reported by someone at the airport. "It was an unintentional fire caused by an unattended candle." Cokefair said the incident was minor and did not affect a large area. "We extinguished it with a hose line in about a half hour."
