Niles Out-of-Control School Bus Hits Six Cars An out-of-control school bus, empty except for the driver, careened down Oakton Street and hit about six other vehicles Tuesday, just before 2:30 p.m. The bus traveled more than a mile westbound from about Milwaukee Avenue to Greenwood Avenue through Niles and Park Ridge, according to Park Ridge Police Commander Lou Jogmen. It traveled in the oncoming traffic lanes. The driver may have been suffering from a medical condition, he said. Minor injuries were reported. Park Ridge police got a call at 2:29 p.m. indicating the bus had struck a vehicle at Oakton Street at Oriole. As they were responding, reports of additional collisions came in. Another missing person’s case has been solved as a result of efforts by law enforcement related to the John Wayne Gacy case, Cook County police announced on Thursday. The remains of an Illinois man once believed to be a possible victim of Gacy were discovered by hikers on a mountainside in Utah, solving a missing person case more than 30 years after the man disappeared. No signs of foul play were found, police stated. Daniel Raymond Noe, a surveyor and factory worker from Peoria, was 21 years old in 1977 when he moved to Bellingham, Washington for work, according to police. Noe called his father on Sept. 30, 1978, and told him he wanted to complete his college degree at Northwestern University in Evanston, and planned to hitchhike back to …

A Will County judge acquitted Tiffany Startz on charges of battery and reckless conduct Wednesday in the “party game” death of a Romeoville man. Startz, 22, was charged after admitting to punching John Powell, 25, in the face as part of a dare made by co-defendant Jimmy Mounts at a Crest Hill house party. Mounts, who pleaded guilty last week to lying to police, reportedly offered $5 to anyone willing to be punched in the face by a girl. Startz’s attorney, called the incident “a party stunt that went terribly wrong,” saying Startz acted without malice. Barrington resident Sam Amirante vividly remembers the phone call he received one cold December day in 1978 that would change his life. "Sam, could you do me a favor?" the caller said. The …
