Sheriff's Office to Conduct Special Patrols Over Super Bowl Weekend

To crack down on drunk drivers and enforce seat belt use, the Lake County Sheriff's Office will conduct special patrols this Super Bowl Weekend.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office announced today it will conduct special patrols this Super Bowl weekend cracking down on drunk drivers and seat belt law violators. “We are reminding everyone that if you choose to drink and drive in Lake County this weekend, you will lose,” said Sheriff Mark Curran. “If you plan on drinking alcohol while cheering on your team, pass your keys to a sober driver before the Super Bowl party begins. Lake County Offers Citizen Police Academy

Apply by Feb. 15 to attend this year's 10-week program.

The Lake County Sheriff's Department will hold its next Citizen Police Academy course starting March 7. Interested residents are invited to apply to the program, which will provide a first-hand look at how the office of Sheriff Mark Curran maintains law and order for the residents of Lake County. The academy is a 10-week program with classes running approximately three hours each on Thursday evenings. The class begins at 6:30 p.m. each evening. Instruction is provided by sworn deputies and civilians in their field of expertise and is designed to provide a hands-on experience. Two Escape From Fiery Crash

An SUV hit a guardrail, rolled over and became engulfed in flames early Thursday.

Two men are lucky to be alive after the car they were in struck a guardrail, rolled over and became engulfed in flames. The Lake County Sheriff's Department responded to the accident about 3:15 a.m. Thursday on Rollins Road west of Route 45. According to the release a black Mercedes SUV traveling Eastbound Rollins Rd West of RT 45 struck a guard rail on the North side of the road.  The vehicle overturned once and became engulfed in flames.  The driver Justin Schulze, 23, of the 18000 Block of Lindenwood Dr Wildwood and passenger John Bruhn, 29, unknown address, were able to exit the vehicle.  The two were transported to Condell Hospital.  Bruhn’s injuries include an amputated foot and broken ribs. Woman Arrested for Prostitution at Dragon Spa in Libertyville

The 41-year-old Chicago woman was arrested Jan. 8.

On Tuesday, Jan. 8, a joint investigation between the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Libertyville Police Department resulted in the arrest of Hong Yang, 41, of the 300 block of Cermak Road in Chicago.  The month-long investigation began after law enforcement received an anonymous tip that the Dragon Spa, located at 402 Peterson Road in Libertyville, was offering sex acts for money. Three detectives received hour-long massages. On Jan. 8 around 1:00 p.m., Yand offered to massage one of the detectives' genital area for an additional fee. With the assistance of Libertyville Police Department, Lake County Sheriff arrested Yang. Yang’s jail bond was set at $1,000. She was released from custody after posting 10 percent of the required bond.  …

UPDATE: Four Lake County Businesses Cited for Alcohol Violations

The clerks at four stores were caught selling alcohol to a minor.

Updated Jan. 8 at 9:07 a.m. The Lake County Sheriff's Department identified the stores where the clerks were cited for selling alcohol to minors. Those stores include the Family Pantry, 21190 Commerical Drive in Mundelein; Country Store, 25238 Rt. 173, Antioch; Citgo Gas, 41082 Rt. 83 in Antioch; Citgo Gas, 41452 Green Bay Rd. in Wadsworth.   Original Post The Lake County Sheriff’s Office conducted alcohol compliance checks at retail liquor establishments that are located throughout unincorporated Lake County. Lake County Sheriff Seeks Reserve Deputies

Citizens can apply to be a reserve deputy for the Lake County Sheriff.

Lake County Sheriff Mark Curran is seeking citizens to join the Lake County Sheriff’s Office team of Reserve Deputies. The Lake County Sheriff’s Reserve Deputy Unit is a dedicated group of volunteers who assist the Sheriff’s Office sworn personnel on an emergency basis. Reserves may be called upon for a variety of reasons, including such things as directing traffic, searching for a missing person, or supplementing security for events such as the Lake County Fair. Reserves are uniformed civilians that are specially trained by the Sheriff’s Office to perform the duties required of them. A Reserve Deputy must have a flexible schedule and be able to respond immediately to a request for service. A prospective reserve deputy must meet the …

Lake County Detectives Nab Two for Indecent Solicitation of Child

Two people are in custody for trying to lure a teenage girl to their Gurnee residence to engage in sexual acts.

Another big arrest for the Lake County Sheriff's Department. Late Thursday LCSO Detectives wrapped up a four-day investigation involving the indecent solicitation of a child. 25-year-old Gina M. Cusimano and 21-year-old Kevin C. Pettitt pf Pembrook Court in Gurnee were arrested. On July 30th, the mother of the intended victim reported to authorities that her 13-year-old daughter had been receiving inappropriate text messages from an adult acquaintance of her daughter, Cusimano as well as Cusimano’s boyfriend, Pettitt.  Detective Covelli, acting as the victim, agreed to meet Cusimano and Pettitt to be picked up and brought to their house to engage in sexual acts.  When Cusimano showed up at the agreed meeting location, she was arrested. …

Lake County Detectives Make Drug, Weapons Bust in Zion

A traffic stop turns into a significant drug bust Thursday when officers find crack cocaine, heroin and two guns.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit (SIU) conducted a traffic stop Thursday, August 2 at 23rd Street and Lewis Avenue in Zion. Police say The driver of the 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe, 43-year-old Kevin D. Howell gave SIU officers consent to search the vehicle.  Deputy Bell of the LCSO and K-9, Thor, also assisted SIU. The search of the interior of the vehicle netted a large amount of crack cocaine. A loaded 9mm handgun was also located by detectives in the air filter of the engine compartment of the Tahoe.  Heroin was located on Howell’s person as well. SIU further followed up with a search of residence of an associate of Howell at the 2500 block of Gilead in Zion.  A substantial amount of crack cocaine was located at …

Lake County Sheriff Seeks Armed Robbers in Grayslake

Lake County sheriff's department are looking for three male between the ages of 20 to 25 who robbed a gas station in Grayslake.

Last night, Feb. 27, at approximately 9:15 p.m., Lake County sheriff’s deputies responded to the Mobile Gas station located at 33199 Route 45 in Unincorporated Grayslake for an Armed Robbery that had just occurred. When deputies arrived, they discovered that three unknown, black males, approximately 20 to 25 years of age, had entered the station wearing ski masks. One of the offenders brandished a black, semi-automatic handgun and demanded money from the cash register.  The offenders took approximately $500 and 10 cartons of Newport brand cigarettes. The offenders fled the station on foot heading eastbound through the parking lot. A Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit responded to the scene and searched for the offenders with negative results. …
