GIRLS’ BASKETBALL: The Lady Rams are 21-4 overall and having an outstanding season despite graduating most of their senior leaders and players. Grayslake Central learns some lessons at the Mundelein Thanksgiving Tournament.
Jordan Taylor was waiting for some help. And the Grayslake Central junior guard received it on Saturday. It came in a big package known as 6-foot-8 Casey Blake. Central basketball was looking for its first win of the 2010-11 season. In the annual Mundelein Thanksgiving Tournament, it came Saturday. In the 74-61 win over Lakes, Blake showed off his skills with 20 points. "He was a man-child that night,'' said Central boys basketball coach Brian Moe. "He was grabbing rebounds. He was posting up hard. He was taking the ball to the basket. It was his basketball coming out party." Grayslake Central's boys hoops team drops two tough games to start the season.
There were no temper tantrums. There were no chairs thrown. It's simply going to take a few weeks to figure out the new Grayslake Central boys basketball team. "Last year, we were 0-2 at this point in the tournament,'' said Grayslake Central basketball coach Brian Moe. Of course it did sting a little on Tuesday night when the Rams took a 30-20 lead to halftime over Barrington. It was game two of the annual Mundelein Thanksgiving Tournament. The lead was 45-36 heading to the final quarter. Jordan Taylor scored four of his team-high 23 points in the fourth quarter. The rest of the Rams combined for one point. The Rams are the number 1 seed in the St Viator Sectional and open play in the Wauconda Regional. The Knights are the number 4 seed in the same sectional and open play in a Chicago (Chicago Northside??) regional. It would seem like the writer would state that correction somewhere.   more ›
