Poll: Do You Agree With President Obama's Gun Control Proposals?

President Obama presented several proposals for increased gun control this week.

President Obama made several proposals for increased gun control this week. Among the president's proposals were background checks for all gun sales, even those by private sellers, reinstating and strengtening the assault weapons ban that expired in 2004 and limiting ammunition magazines to 10 rounds, the New York Times reported. The White House's entire 15-page proposal can be downloaded here. We also attached video of the president discussing the plan to this post. Other aspects of the plan include putting 1,000 more school resource officers and counselors in schools and improving mental health services. "We are going to need to work on making access to mental health care as as easy as access to a gun," Obama said. The proposals come …

RB, excellent point---these gun fans keep bring up totally unrelated facts to try to equal gun deaths---very lame. But even if they had a good point it still doesn't excuse the use of guns as they are in the US today. Why do we even remotely let kids get their hands on guns---maybe cause we have too damn many to begin with??   more ›

NRA Calls for 'Armed Security' Around Schools

"The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun," the NRA's Wayne LaPierre said.

In an amazing Friday morning press conference, the National Rifle Association broke its weeklong silence following the horrific shooting of 26 people at a school in Newtown, CT and called for a surge of gun-carrying "good guys" around American schools. NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre called for a new kind of American domestic security revolving around armed civilians, arguing that "the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun." "We care about our president, so we protect him with armed Secret Service agents," LaPierre said. "Members of Congress work in offices surrounded by Capitol Police officers. Yet, when it comes to our most beloved, innocent, and vulnerable members of the American family, our …

Very odd rant. Very odd. So, more guns, more police, national registry of nutcases. Ok, more police = bigger govt. National registry = removing privacy yep - this is exactly what the GOP wants. Oh, and the NRA has only 4 million members.   more ›

Walmart, Dick's Pull Some Firearms After Newtown Shooting

The Newtown school shooting has spurred some retailers to suspend gun sales.

Christmas shopping for the outdoorsman may be a little different this year. Walmart pulled from its shelves a Bushmaster rifle that's in the same group of guns as the one reportedly used by the gunman in the Dec. 14 shootings at in Newtown, Conn., according to media reports. There are Walmart stores in many local communities, including Lake Zurich, Palatine, Vernon Hills and Wheeling. It’s unclear if the chain suspended sales of any other sporting rifles. Searches for “modern sporting rifle,” "semi-automatic rifle” and “bushmaster” displayed guns for sale in stores only. But when checked for availability, all showed as "out of stock." Patch also left a message with Walmart’s media relations staff, but that message has not been returned. …

Grayslake Lights the Night to Show Support for Shooting Victims

"When one bleeds, we all bleed," is how Joyce Campbell of Grayslake described her participation in Monday's Light the Night event to show support for families in Newtown, Conn.

A grass roots effort to show support for families dealing with the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn. led residents from Grayslake and surrounding areas to "Light the Night" with candles on their front porches Monday, Dec. 17. "I'm a teacher, so I can't even watch the news coverage of the shooting for five minutes without breaking down," said Donna Lovitsch, of Grayslake. "I teach special needs kids at Lake Forest High School so the incident kind of hits home for me." She said she wanted to have the candle lit on her front porch to pay tribute to those affected by the unspeakable tragedy that took the lives of 26 victims, including 20 young children. "As a teacher, you know your school has taken all of these safety …

Grayslake to Light the Night for Newtown

Join Grayslake in showing support for the victims of the Newtown school shooting by placing a candle on your porch from 7-9 p.m. tonight.

To show their support for the 26 victims lost to Friday's school shooting in Newtown, CT., Grayslake residents will be placing a candle (real or flameless) on their porch from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. tonight (Monday). The suggestion was posted on the Grayslake Patch Facebook by resident Jennifer Heavrin and has since received 100 "Likes" and 85 shares. This was Heavrin's original post: "Can we start a Grayslake Community chain, putting a candle (regular or flameless) outside on your porch on Monday, December 17th, from 7-9pm, in honor of those that lost their lives (big and little angels) and for their families, support??? I remember doing this in St. Louis when I was a kid, for the hostages and it was a such an amazing act of support and to do, …
