Authorities in Las Vegas say Edward C. Brandt of Lake Forest shot a 30-year-old concierge desk worker at a casino hotel before killing himself Friday, according to the Chicago Tribune. Jessica Corinne Kenny of Las Vegas was shot at the Excalibur resort, where she worked as the concierge desk worker for the travel website Vegas.com, ABC 7 News in Chicago reported on Monday. Brandt, 31, then shot himself in the head. Kenny was a 2000 graduate of Grayslake High School, according to the Daily Herald. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family at this most difficult time," Denise Kindle, assistant superintendent for personnel services at Grayslake High School District 127, told the Daily Herald. Suspect still at large following Sunday morning shooting at spa near Brookfield Square Mall at Milwaukee suburb.
Brookfield, WI — At least seven people have been shot this morning at the Azana Spa across the street from the Brookfield Square mall. Other reports say as many as a dozen have been shot by the gunman, who is still at large. Brookfield is a suburb of about 38,000 people just west of Milwaukee. Patch has learned the man wanted by police is apparently the estranged husband of one of the hair stylists at the spa. A spa employee told Patch the hair stylist has been having problems since she left her husband. The man is believed to have slashed car tires in the parking lot of the spa and the business recently put up signs on most of its doors warning employees to keep them locked at all times. Local movie theatre owners are increasing safety precautions after 59 people were wounded and 12 killed during a shooting spree at a Colorado movie theatre.
Leave your masks and costumes at home when you go to see the new Batman this weekend. Officials at Marcus Theatres, located at 6144 Grand Avenue in the Gurnee Mills Mall, request that movie-goers do not wear costumes, or masks following a shooting spree in Colorado at a midnight showing of Batman: The Dark Knight Rises. "All we can tell you is that we're requesting the costumes are kept to a minimum," said Carlo Petrick, communications manager with Marcus Theatres. Early Friday, a gunman at a theater in Aurora, Colorado, reportedly wore a gas mask and a bulletproof vest and opened fire, wounding 59 people and killing 12, according to The Coloradoan. Man tries to rob drugs from pharmacy and gets shot by pharmacist.
A man who tried to rob a Wauconda pharmacy is now struggling for his life at Condell Hospital in Libertyville. Wauconda Police responded to a 9-1-1 call for a robbery in progress at 1:49 p.m. Feb. 14 at the Wauconda Pharmacy, 222 S. Main St., Wauconda, according to a press release from the Wauconda Police Dept. When police arrived at the scene, they found the alleged offender lying near the front entrance with a gunshot wound in his side, according to police reports. The police investigation determined that the offender, believed to be Guy Michael Conti, 31, unknown address, forced his way into the pharmacist’s work area and demanded a large quantity of drugs.
