Richard Louis Scholz, a resident of Grayslake, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at his residence at the age of 86. He was born Feb. 25, 1926 in Chicago. Richard was a World War II veteran having served with the US Navy. Richard is survived by his wife Margie Lavern Scholz, whom he wed on May 28, 1960, his children Steve (Linda) Scholz, Michael (Linda) Scholz, and Randolph (Olga) Scholz, and his grandchildren Theresa, Ryan, Cory, Casey, Jennifer, Olivia, and Andrew. Services were held at Strang Funeral Chapel with interment at Irving Park Cemetery in Chicago. Shirley Alice Bero, a 76-year-old Grayslake resident, passed away Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.  She was born in Chicago on June 24, 1936…

A memorial for Gertrude M. "Gert" Zieman, of Grayslake, will be held 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12 at Strange Funeral Chapel in Grayslake.

Gertrude M. “Gert” Zieman, an 84-year-old longtime Grayslake resident, passed away at home late Thursday evening, Jan. 3. She was born in Chicago on Feb. 4, 1928, to the now late Frank and Daisy Heynis. When she was able, Gert attended United Protestant Church in Grayslake. She loved to knit and crochet. Frances Aleckson, a 90-year-old Round Lake resident, passed away Dec. 25, at Winchester House in Libertyville. She was born in Chicago to the now late Francis and Isabelle {nee Crowe} Howell on June 1, 1922, and raised by her now late grandparents John and Harriet Crowe. Harold R. “Ross” Martin, an 84-year-old Saddlebrook Farms (Grayslake) resident, formerly of Wayzata, MN, passed away unexpectedly early Thursday morning, Dec. 27, at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Martin was born in Toronto, Canada on Sept. 12, 1928. He worked for Moore Business Forms for 46 years, in both the United States and Canada, retiring in 1993. Mrs. Mildred “Rusty” Canty, 84, of Ingleside, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 22, at Manor Care in Libertyville. Rusty was born on Jan. 14, 1928, and raised in Newton, Iowa. She and her husband Herb married on June 5, 1948. They resided in Grayslake for many years before making their home in Ingleside. After her husband’s passing in 1981, Rusty remained in their home until her passing on Thanksgiving Day. Rusty and Herb owned and operated Herb’s Drive In from 1957 to 1968 on Route 120 in Grayslake. After the sale of their business, she worked for several companies pursuing a career in real estate. A patriot, she was interested and involved in politics and served for several years as an Election Judge. After her retirement, Rusty began …

James  R. Nardini, 82, of Grayslake, formerly of Highland Park, passed away at home on Nov. 10. He was born in Highwood and served in the U.S. Marine Corps.  James worked for High School District 113 for 35 years. He is survived by Mary {nee Bonamarte}, his wife of 60 years; his five children Trine (Gino) Grillo, Michael (Geri) Nardini, Janis (Scott) Swanson, Robert (Leslie) Nardini, and Lynn (Lawrence) Buccieri, and his 15 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his son, Stephen Nardini. Russell Otto Hoeppner, a resident of Grayslake, passed away Sunday October 28, 2012 at the age of 85. He was born May 15, 1927 in Chicago, IL. Russell was a veteran of the Navy having served during World War II. He served as Past Master of the Libertyville Masonic Lodge #492, an Honorary Member Sequoit Lodge #827 and Rising Sun Lodge #115. He was Grand Lecturer for the State of Illinois, the past TPM of Lodge of Perfection, Scottish Rite, Valley of Chicago, and was past chairman of the Degree Team. Russell was a member of the Medinah Shrine and the Medinah Patrol Color Guard.
