CLC to Buy Land Proposed for Indoor Sports Dome

College of Lake County trustees voted 5-1 to approve the 10-acre purchase. Trustee Barbara Oilschlager voted against it, reported the Daily Herald.

The College of Lake County Board of Trustees voted this week in favor of purchasing 10 acres of land located at its doorstep on W. Washington Street from the Glunz family for $2.2 million, reported the Daily Herald.

The land could potentially be used by the college to grow produce for its local food program or even sports fields, said a trustee Richard Anderson, according to the Herald.

Last month, two brothers proposed building a 180,000 square foot, air-supported indoor sports dome on the same site, reported Patch.

The majority of residents who commented on Patch's post said they thought such a facility would be an eyesore, and that the community had other needs.

"Ugh... I'm as big of a fan of physical fitness and promoting activity as you'll find, but the idea of a 180,000 square foot, 75 foot tall bubble right on Washington street does not appeal to me."

"How about 'No?' There are way too many other things Grayslake needs instead of some lame sports complex. What are these people thinking?"

"I don't object to the sports dome, but I wish it would be located in an area not so 'in your face,' as the Washington Street location."

"I would love and use sports dome, especially if it had a indoor pool. Which is what Grayslake is sorely lacking."
