Former Frederick School PTO Treasurer Due in Court April 23

"This is not the PTO versus Elizabeth Bako," said PTO President Katherine Rasmussen

Elizabeth Bako, the former Frederick School PTO treasurer accused of stealing from the organization, is due back in court April 23 for a pre-trial hearing.

A trial date of April 29 has also been set.

Bako is charged with two counts of felony theft, one for theft of $10,000 to $100,000 and the other for theft of $500 to $10,000. She has also been charged with two counts of unlawful purchase with a credit or debit card, according to the Lake County Circuit Clerk's Office.

The incidents allegedly occurred between April 2011 and May 2012 while Bako was serving as treasurer of the Frederick School PTO. The Grayslake resident pleaded not guilty at an arraignment hearing Dec. 5.

Bako last appeared in court March 13. Her pre-trial hearing was continued at that court appearance. She was also granted permission to travel out-of-state to Kenosha, WI, for a family Easter gathering, according to the Circuit Clerk's Office.

PTO President Katherine Rasmussen said she wants residents to know that she is "personally doing everything I can to recover as much as I can for the children of Frederick School.

"And I'm hoping, and have confidence in the team that we have now, that justice will prevail," said Rasmussen. "And I want to thank those people who have supported us from the beginning."

Though she couldn't comment on specifics of the case, Rasmussen said she wants "people to understand that this is not personal. This is not the PTO versus Elizabeth Bako."

Bako's attorney, Christopher Lombardo, could not be reached for comment.
