Vehicle Crashes Into Woodland Middle School, Sixth-Grader Injured

The incident happened at 3:45 p.m. Aug. 7.

A driver accidentally drove into a north-side entrance of Woodland Middle School Wednesday afternoon, injuring an 11-year-old student.

In a press release, Public Information Specialist Jennifer Tempest Bova said at about 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, the district "learned that a driver mistook the gas pedal for the brake" and drove into the school. She said the main entrance doorway was damaged but the building did not sustain structural damage.

A sixth-grader "sustained non-life threatening injuries, cuts and abrasions and was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center," Bova said.

The proof of residency event for Wednesday evening was subsequently canceled. The residency event will continue with extended hours, noon-8 p.m., Thursday.

Bova said the district has members of its crisis team, including psychologists and social workers, available for parents and staff who witnessed the incident.
