A Glorious Day at the 2nd Annual Home Run for Education Softball Tournament

Foundation 46 hosted its 2nd Annual Home Run for Education Softball Tournament on Saturday, September 14 at Central Park and Aquatic Softball fields in Grayslake, generating $6500 in proceeds.  Ten teams of 10-15 players came together for this exciting and spirited all day event in the beautiful late summer sunshine.

The double elimination tournament resulted in a significant upset! Lord of Glory, a team formed within the Lord of Glory Lutheran Church community, arose from the losers’ bracket to seize the championship over the “Durham Bulls” who had survived all day in the winners’ bracket. Although the Lord of Glory team had played SEVEN games throughout the day, they looked just as strong in their final match-up as they had in their first game of the day.

The Grayslake police put the fire department to the test with a decisive victory in their mid-day matchup, officiated by Mayor Rhett Taylor. We expect the fire department will be looking for retribution next year!

The tournament was capped by a short awards celebration at The Vine’s annual outdoor Blues Fest where the champions graciously declined the $700 cash prize, stating they knew Foundation 46 would put the funds to good use.

The Memory Makers, a team sponsored and primarily fielded by Memory Makers Entertainment staff, was awarded a prize for having raised the highest dollar amount in pledges, a whopping $850. The prize was a $100 gift card to the Vine intended for a team celebration. But when the Memory Makers team learned of Lord of Glory’s decision to decline 100% of their cash prize, they decided to pay it forward as well. They used their gift card to pick up the tab for the Lord of Glory team instead!
