- AJ Fish - 15 points
- Danny Mateling - 13 points
- Mark Hall - 11 points

"We improved to 8-5 (1-0) on the season with a win in the Fox Division opener against Woodstock North," said Coach Todd Grunloh. "We got off to a quick 7-0 start, before Woodstock North battled back to cut the lead to 11-7 at the end of the 1st Quarter. Even though we led at halftime 26-21 and at the end of the 3rd Quarter 36-25, we just never seemed to be completely in sync on offense. We didn't shoot very well from the floor (1-11 3's) and just could never get to the point where you felt at all comfortable in the game. To open up the 4th Quarter Woodstock North got hot and made several 3-pointers to close the gap to 3 but our kids responded well and made their free throws down the stretch. We were 20-25 from the FT line, including AJ Fish's 9-10. Regardless of how poorly we shot, the most important thing of the night was that we were able to start the conference schedule on the road and get a win."

1/10/12

Knights 66, Johnsburg 56

"We improved to 9-5 (2-0) and beat Johnsburg for the second time this season (12/30/11). Both of the games were in fact very similar (64-56 on December 60th) in that it was a back and forth game for the 1st half (we led 28-25 at half) but in this game we never trailed in the second half," said Grunloh. "Zack Krupp scored a career high 22 points (including 4-6 from 3’s) and recorded his fourth career double-double (22 Points & 12 Rebounds). AJ Fish had 18 points and was 5-6 from the free throw line, most of which came late in the 4th Quarter to ensure the victory. Danny Mateling had 12 points. Ben Guhl did a really nice job defensively off of the bench in limiting Johnsburg’s penetration by altering shots in the lane. He was also able to score some big baskets in the paint as we began to pull away."

1/18/12

Grayslake North 65, Woodstock 36

"Considering how we have played at Woodstock the last few years, I thought we played really well," said Grunloh. "It would be easy to overlook Woodstock in preparation for Saturday's game against Hampshire, but our kids did a great job all week of staying focused on what needed to be done, and that was taking care of Woodstock right from the start. We jumped out to an 18-7 lead in the 1st Quarter but then eventually stalled offensively for a few minutes. That allowed them to cut the lead to a couple possessions. However, we responded well and started taking better team shots. From that point on the game was never in reach. Mark Hall had one of the best all-around games that I have seen a player have in our six-year history (16 points, 8 assists, 8 rebounds, 5 steals, and 2 blocks). If he had played the entire game, he would have had a serious shot at a triple-double. Danny Mateling finished with 14 points."

NEXT UP: The Knights play host to Hampshire on January 21 and then the returning conference champs Crystal Lake Central on the 24. The Knights play against the cross-town rival Rams in what promises to be a packed house on January 27. (Be advised to get there early for seating and parking!) On the 31, the Knights take it on the road to Marengo.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL:

 1/3/12

The Knights defeated Hampshire 43-37. "The Hampshire game was tough game after the Holiday break, lead that whole game against a very talented Hampshire team," said Coach Jim Sarver.

1/6/12

Grayslake North defeated Woodstock at Woodstock 61-30. "We played very well at Woodstock and in the second half outscored them 38-12," said Sarver.

1/10/12

In the big cross-town rivalry, the Grayslake Knights lost to the Grayslake Rams 26-41. "It was a great crowd and atmosphere," said Sarver. "Central played very well and despite poor shooting by the Knights, we were in the game until the last few minutes."

1/13/12

Crystal Lake Central fell to the Lady Knights 40-35. "We trailed the entire game against a good Crystal Lake team," Sarver said. "Then in the last three minutes we took our first lead and were able to hold onto it for the victory."

1/17/12

The Knights had a tough loss to Woodstock North 51-45. "Jordyn Bowen hit 4 threes – the most in her career," said Sarver. "It was a close game from beginning to end. Woodstock North hit big free throws down the stretch."

Looking ahead, Sarver said, "We have to start peaking getting ready for regionals. We need to continue to improve on offense when facing good teams. We also need to continue to improve defensively against quality scorers."

Sarver reports that the combined record for all teams in program so far is 40-7 – the freshmen are 13-1, the sophomores are 13-2, and the varsity is 14-4.

NEXT UP:

The Lady Knights host Lakes on January 20 and then Johnsburg comes to visit on the 23. The Knights travel to Antioch on January 27 before hosting Woodstock on the 28. Waukegan comes to Grayslake North on the 31.

WRESTLING:

"We are currently 22-6," said new head coach Ryan West. "We lost to Crystal Lake Central and have beaten everyone else on our half of the conference except for Woodstock North, whom we wrestle next. On the opposite side of the division, we beat Cary Grove and lost to McHenry."
